Video laser particle counters are used for many things in multiple industries. HVAC professionals, occupational safety, and workplace health professionals often use video laser particle counters while carrying out their work. In very basic terms, video laser particle counters calculate concentrations of airborne particles.
At Alabama Bio-Clean, we use the Extech VPC30. This meter:
- measures and displays six channels of particle sizes (down to 0.3 μm)
- measures air temperature, humidity, dew point
- has three Particle Count Modes: Cumulative, Differential, and Concentration modes
Why is a video laser particle counter useful in our work?
We use the Extech VPC30 for many things, but we employ them most often to verify the efficacy of HEPA air scrubbers, HEPA filters, and HEPA vacuums. We use the meter to ensure that the particles measured coming in are reduced by 99.97% in the exhaust.
We also use the meter to demonstrate the success of our cleaning. This is shown by how successful we are in lowering particulates in the air.
For example, after cleaning a home of a cancer patient returning from chemotherapy, we use the counter to be sure that the number of particulates in the air is lower after our deep cleaning. It is essential to patients like these that their environment and air quality are as clean as possible. Using the Extech VPC30 enables us to check that our work is of the highest quality.
