The suicide of a loved one has devastating effects on those that remain to mourn and who must carry on. According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the USA. In 2018, there were an estimated 1.4 million suicide attempts and 48,344 deaths by suicide.

Health Hazards and Safe Suicide Cleanup
In addition to the emotional trauma of a suicide cleanup, there are many health hazards that the average layperson will easily expose themselves to in the attempt to adequately clean and disinfect the area.
At Alabama Bio-Clean, our trained and licensed technicians will quickly assess the scene and employ the most efficient methods to restore the space to its original condition. We utilize the latest technologies and techniques to sanitize the affected areas. When we finish, every surface is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. We will verify the cleanliness by using an Adenosine Triphosphate luminometer.
There are minimum requirements for safely cleaning bodily fluids
- You must wear adequate personal protective equipment (PPE), including multiple pairs of disposable gloves, respirators, safety shoes, goggles, and coveralls.
- Use an EPA registered disinfectant product with a broad spectrum kill claim to clean the affected areas. Most common store-bought cleaning products are not sufficient.
- When disposing of medical waste, you must do so correctly. Medical waste containers must be used. So to ensure all waste is appropriately marked and packaged. Once proper packaging is complete, the medical waste needs to be manifested and transported for disposal. Alabama Department of Environmental Management, ADEM, requires a license for generators, transporters, and medical waste treatment facilities.
- If any part of your body becomes exposed to biohazardous fluids, immediately rinse and cleanse the area with soap and water. If you cut yourself or if a prior wound gets exposed, you should see a doctor immediately.
